Paratesticular fibrous pseudotumours

Paratesticular (beside the testicle) fibrous (scar-like tissue) pseudotumours (not really tumours) are rare benign lesions that are thought to form in reaction to inflammation. They arise from one of the layers covering the testicle. It is important to be able to tell the difference between fibrous pseudotumours and cancer as the testicle is often removed for cancerous lesions, and may be possible to save if the former is identified.

I designed this art for a new publication in RadioGraphics that summarises the appearance of fibrous pseudotumours on ultrasound, MRI, and intra-operatively: https://pubs.rsna.org/doi/10.1148/rg.2021210031 I've been working on a series of cases for the journal called 'Cases from the Cooky Jar' where I have been illustrating rare diseases to complement other forms of imaging. My goals have been to help share the pathology in a memorable way and fill gaps in the literature where there aren’t many (or any!) illustrations - something that I hope can be helpful for patients as well as professionals.

At the time of writing I have one more pathology illustration like this under review, and am actively spending the early hours of my mornings designing the one that will come after that, so keep an eye out for the next cases!
